Artist's Statement:
Visiting Claude The Albino Alligator was a weekly activity for my family when our lads were younger. When I say weekly I really mean multiple visits per week. Inevitably, one of our sons would wonder aloud about how Claude was doing which would result in us gathering our things and striking out to Golden Gate Park to go visit Claude. For more than ten years my parents would renew our family pass at the California Academy of Sciences as a special holiday gift and we put that pass to solid use. No matter what seasonal exhibition was on display at the time, we had a family ritual which was to go check in with Claude before we explored any of the other favorite haunts in that amazing location. We had Claude portrait drawings and paintings from our entire family all over our house and some of these pieces went out into the world in one of our exhibitions. Claude meant so much to all of us who visited and the Academy will never be quite the same without him! So this shirt design is a bit of a love letter to our friend Claude who has passed along, leaving us all with many fond memories of him at feeding time or basking on his little island or lazily swimming laps in his albino oasis.
